Workshop: From Attendee to Presenter: Presenting a Scientific Poster

Prof. Mona Rakhawy 
Mona Rakhawy is a professor of psychiatry at Cairo University. She has co-developed a psychotherapy training program for psychiatry residents, and has integrated experiential techniques in teaching and training medical students. In 2006, she has founded Diwan Psychotherapy Center, and in 2011, the first Egyptian/Arab association of group psychotherapy and group processes (EAGT, 2010-11). She has recently established Rakhawy Training and Research Center. Professor Rakhawy has notable contributions to introducing different psychotherapeutic approaches, such as creative arts and psychodrama, into Egypt. She is EAGT president, and a member of the board of directors of the International Association for Group Therapies and Group Processes (IAGP). She has several national and international publications in the field of psychiatry and psychotherapy. She gave keynote speeches, invited talks and workshops in different world countries. She organized the first and second International Conference in Group psychotherapy and Group Processes in Africa and the Arab world.

Dr. Hanan El-Mazahy
Dr. Hanan El-Mazahy originally trained as a pediatrician sub specializing in Pediatric neurology and completed a Master’s degree in pediatrics in 2006, she then moved into the area of child and adolescent psychotherapy earning a PhD in Mental Health in 2016 and is now a fellow of the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists. She is currently in private practice in Alexandria, Egypt. Dr. El-Mazahy is the head of the Child section of the Egyptian Association for Group Therapy and Processes EAGT. She has been involved in community work and trainings on child protection and is a licensed child protection trainer. She has presented nationally, regionally and internationally on child and adolescent psychotherapy and won the best poster award at the 2015 conference of the International Association for group psychotherapy (IAGP). Her psychotherapeutic interests include child and Adolescent group psychotherapy, DBT, play therapy, family therapy and Psychodrama. Together with the Egyptian DBT for adolescents team Dr. El-Mazahy has been translating and implementing DBT with adolescents in Arabic, and providing the first comprehensive DBT for adolescents program in Arabic.

Workshop description:
Poster presentations are a common way to present research during conferences, where people can look at them all through the conference and discuss them with the presenter during poster sessions. Presenting a scientific poster at conferences allows you to showcase your work, get feedback and recognition. It also has various benefits for your career in general. During this workshop you will appreciate the value of doing your own research, identify the components of a successful poster and gain hands on experience in putting a poster together.
By the end of the workshop, the participants will be able to:
1. Gain hands on experience in presenting work with individuals or groups in a poster format
2. Recognize areas that can be presented as posters
3. Identify the components of a successful scientific poster
4. Be able to start a project of presenting a poster and finishing it
5. Discover their creative potential and individuality
6. Empowered to conduct research studies with consideration of the underlying scientific and ethical regulations
